Open House
Open House
On Saturday, May 4th, 2024 we held our Annual Open House. This year we were very excited because we have completed major updates in the Main Building and the Annex. We are also in the process of renovating the Large Family Corn Crib. Both of these undertakings are huge and we could not have gotten where we are without the support of the community and the Real County Hotel Motel Tax Grant. We are humbled and thankful for both.
To start the day we had 4 exhibit booths demonstrating the daily life of years ago. Thanks to Kathy Brooks and Mary Jane Crenshaw (RCHM Directors) for exhibiting your “handi-work”. Thanks to Paula and Darryel Perry for the butter-making display. Thanks to Buddy and Jan Wilkinson for the shingle-making display and thanks to Jackson Ward for the Native American, flint-knapping, and geology display. You all made the day special for a lot of people!
At 11 am we held a dedication ceremony for the Large Family Corn Crib. Jackson opened the program with a song, Linda told the history of corn cribs, and Dub Suttle told stories of the history of the Large family. I was pleased to see a “large group of Large” descendants at the event. Some local descendants were joined by cousins from the Houston area and even Colorado. Thank all of you for attending.
Below are a few photos taken at the event by R T (Trev)Sparks III and a few others who graciously shared. Thanks so much!
