A Day at the Museum
“A Day at the Museum” was a success despite the torrential, much-needed, and much-welcomed down-pour! Our overall plan was to have an event that would be entertaining to both adults and kids! Sadly, we had to postpone most of the events for the kids but note the word postpone, we will be having “A Day for the Kids” and do all of the events that we could not do plus some added events but it may not be re-scheduled until the spring! So, mark your calendars!
We had three great guests who brought their programs. David Barkalow, Wayland Baptist University history professor, presented a very informative program about what it was like here in Real County when the petroglyphs on the Lewis Ranch Rock were created. David Calam, Texas Borderland Archeologist, mingled with the exhibitors, helping them identify and understand their artifact collections. Richard Gonzalez and Anita Anaya of the Lipan Apache Band of Texas set up their teepee with educational material inside of it. Jackson Ward set up his display and demonstrated the atlatl, bow, and arrow. We had several individual displays of artifacts and geology items including, Stuart, Don, Jan, Buddy, and Sherry plus our displays in the Museum. The Real County Historical Museum wants to thank everyone who participated, in any way, and a special thank you to Mother Nature who came with much-needed rain!
Thanks to everyone who stopped by that day and stay tuned for “Kids Day at the Museum-featuring Archeology and Geology” sometime in the spring!
